I came to Beijing to attend an industry summit and booked my accommodation at Beijing Friendship Hotel Grand Building. Previously, I had only heard of it as a prestigious old national guest hotel. After staying for three days, I truly realized that truly first-class service is never just about overly enthusiastic greetings, but about anticipating all the details in advance.
As soon as I got out of the taxi, the doorman quickly came up and took the heavy suitcase with conference materials in my hand. His fingertips were steady and he didn't need my hand at all. He walked all the way to the lobby door before gently putting it down, without any extra conversation. When checking in, the front desk staff did not read the lengthy instructions, only handed over the room card and a handwritten note, which marked the walking route to the summit venue I was going to, the priority time for breakfast, and even my casual mention of "pollen allergy" was marked in the corner of the note with "fresh cut flowers have been removed from the room in advance".
Upon entering the room, I realized that this thoughtfulness had already been laid out in every detail. On the desk, the A4 paper and signature pen I needed for the conference were arranged in advance, and there was a small jar of throat lozenges next to it. Later, I remembered that when I made an appointment over the phone the day before, I just casually mentioned that my voice had been a bit hoarse lately. In addition to the regular bathrobe, there is also a thick cashmere shawl hanging in the wardrobe. In late autumn in Beijing, the wind is cool at night, and when I woke up at night to go to the balcony to enjoy the garden night view, I could just wrap it up to keep warm.
What impressed me the most was a small incident on the day of the summit: I was in a hurry to rush to the venue in the morning and accidentally left a briefcase containing a project USB drive in my room. When I found it, I was already standing at the entrance of the venue sweating profusely. With a try it out attitude, I called the front desk. In less than ten minutes, the staff delivered my briefcase to the entrance of the venue and even brought me a bottle of warm honey water, afraid that I would make my throat uncomfortable in a hurry. There was not a single unnecessary complaint throughout the process, and they even refused to accept the thank-you tip I handed over.
After the meeting, I wanted to take a walk and eat in the park. As soon as I reached the edge of the long corridor, the patrolling staff handed me an umbrella from a distance and said, "It's cloudy in the sky. It's estimated that it will rain in ten minutes. It's convenient for you to hold it. As expected, I had just arrived halfway when a light rain fell. Without this umbrella, my newly changed formal attire would have been soaked. On the day I left, I caught the early flight and went downstairs an hour earlier. The front desk had handed me the packed breakfast bag, which was stuffed with a small box of hawthorn cake that I had boasted about the previous day's breakfast in addition to the hot steamed buns and soybean milk.
Having stayed in so many high-end hotels, it is rare to encounter such a service: it will not deliberately come up to disturb you, but it can always catch all the delicate needs when you need them. The sense of propriety and thoughtfulness engraved in the bones is the most touching aspect of the old national guest hotel. Next time I come to Beijing, I will definitely choose Beijing Friendship Hotel Grand Building as soon as possible.Show more
This time I came to Beijing to attend an industry conference, and the conference team arranged accommodation at Beijing Friendship Hotel Grand Building. Previously, I had only seen its name as the "largest garden style hotel in Asia" in the information. The moment I really opened the door, I understood what it meant to be quiet in the hustle and bustle of old Beijing.
When checking in at the front desk, the staff spoke in a polite and gentle tone. They heard that it was my first time here and specially handed me a hand drawn park guide map. Pointing to the markings on it, they told me where the ginkgo trees were the best to see in autumn and where the fountain was most prominent in the evening.
The room I am staying in has a spacious layout, without excessive stacking of luxurious soft furnishings, and exudes the dignified atmosphere of an old-fashioned state guest hotel. The desk by the window is just wide enough to hold notebooks and meeting materials, and the warm light of the desk lamp falls on the paper. Staying up late to organize meeting minutes is also effortless. The most surprising thing is the large french window on the balcony. When you open the window, you can see the glazed tile roof downstairs. The branches of ancient pines in the distance come over, and the wind brings the fragrance of vegetation. The water bar is equipped with a complete set of wine glasses and knives and forks. In the evening, I packed nearby old Beijing desserts, brewed a cup of coffee, sat by the window, and watched the sunshine roll over the fallen leaves from the garden, even the exhaustion of the journey slowly dissipating.
The most unforgettable thing is the walking time in the park. The green glazed tile buildings are symmetrically spread along the central axis. carved beams and painted rafters is hidden in the shade of towering ancient trees, and the small garden with scattered pavilions is seen step by step. Walking around the Friendship Palace in the early morning, elderly people practicing Tai Chi leisurely by the roadside, and occasionally encountering students from Renmin University who came to study in the morning. The sound of books mixed with the chirping of birds, completely forgetting that just a few steps away was the bustling traffic of Zhongguancun. The types of breakfast are authentic and solid. The freshly ground bean curd jelly served with sauce has a strong bean flavor, and the coke rings and sugar ears are authentic old Beijing flavor. You don't need to go to the alleys to find snacks, but you can taste them all in the hotel restaurant.
The meeting ended late in the evening, and on the way back to the hotel, I deliberately took a detour to the old corridor of the park. Warm yellow street lamps were laid along the corridor, and tree shadows fell on the red wall, like scenes from old Beijing movies. Remembering the information that this is a guesthouse built in the western suburbs in 1954, serving as the venue for the National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference for 20 consecutive years. I don't know how many important guests I have walked on the cobblestone road under my feet, but at this moment, I can take a peaceful walk here. This sense of weight that transcends time cannot be given by any internet famous hotel.
I used to think that choosing a new hotel close to the business district would be more convenient when staying in Beijing. However, after staying at Beijing Friendship Hotel Grand Building this time, I realized that being able to stay in a historical garden hidden in the bustling city and rest for a few days in the ancient buildings with flying eaves and flowing ridges is the most flavorful accommodation experience in Beijing.Show more
